Tennesse Constitution (1796)

Constitution of the State of Tennessee was ratified after the U.S. Constitution and the First Amendment. In Article VIII, Section II. it stated:

No person who denies the being of God, or a future state of rewards and punishments, shall hold any office in the civil department of this State.
