The following is a quote from Samuel Adams, made in a speech at the State House in Phiadelphia, Aug. 1, 1776:
"He who made all men hath made the truths necessary to human happiness obvious to all… Our forefathers opened the Bible to all.”
The Founders included the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution partly to protect religious rights. It was intended to keep the Federal government from interfering in religious practices and to keep it from establishing a national religion.
