The Founders included the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution partly to protect religious rights. It was intended to keep the Federal government from interfering in religious practices and to keep it from establishing a national religion. Our 41st President was George H.W. Bush. In his 1989 Inaugural address he said,
"Our challenges are great, but our will is greater. And if our flaws are endless, God's love is truly boundless.
"Thank you. God bless you and God bless the United States of America."
